Fantastic Friday! Groundhog Day Predictions, Publishing Celebrations!

Hi All,

   Just a quick note... Today we talked about our predictions for Groundhogs day!!! Half of the class thinks the groundhog will see his shadow... and half of the class thinks the Groundhog will not see his shadow!!!  I hope Spring is coming quickly!! Let's see! :)

 
We also celebrated our non fiction writing with Mrs. Mazzo's Class... Take a look!!!!










Mrs. Mazzo's Class read books to our class by the famous Author Chris Van Allsburg....
He wrote stories like: The Polar Express and Jumanji!!!


 
The students were so excited to learn about this author!!

Terrific Thursday! Math Arrays, Computer Lab and more!

Hi All,

   Just a quick note... In math today, our objective was to develop readiness for multiplication and finding coin combinations equivalent to $1.00; and to explore one meaning of division.

This afternoon we went to the computer lab where some students practiced reading on RAZ KIDS and other students practiced their fast math facts....

Wonderful Wednesday! Subtraction Stories, Reading, and more!

Hi all,

    In math today we reviewed solution strategies for subtraction of 2 digit numbers... We also used base ten blocks to help us! 
 
I have assigned one page of math homework and one page of reading...
I am going to be giving the January Mad Minute test on Friday! :)
Make sure your child is studying their math facts!!!!
 
Take marks 90 days in school!!! We have already completed half the year!!! I can not believe it!!!!

Snowy Monday... Mixed addition subtraction stories, RAZ KIDS, finished publishing...

Hi all,

    Quick note.... Today in math we practiced mixed addition and subtraction stories.  The objective was to have students select and complete an appropriate diagram to help solve an addition or subtraction problem.

   In writing, everyone completed their published stories.... We will have a celebration of our stories with Mrs. Mazzo's class!!!! So so so proud of my students!!!
 
   A reminder... there is no school tomorrow due to the blizzard!!!! Stay safe everyone.... Channel 12 news is always a good resource for updates.... and the Stamford public schools website....
 
   Let's hope this blizzard is kind to us!!!!

Fantastic Friday! I spy non fiction text features....

Hi All,

   Today we played "I Spy" using non fiction text features... The students used their eye spy eyes to find non fiction text features in their book... When they shared on the carpet they had to explain what their non fiction text feature was....

 
The students loved this game! Take a look!
Kevin spied bold words in his book... He said those words are "IMPORTANT"

Finn spied table of contents... which shows you where to find things in the story.

Terrific Thursday! Data day! Talent Show... Publishing...

Hi All,

   Just a quick note.... In Math today we practiced data and experienced collecting, sorting, tallying, and graphing data.... on a bar graph... Room 114 likes Fruits/Veggies the most!

Today, the students saw the talent show!!! What an exciting day!!! These kids really have talent!!!

Wonderful Wednesday! Quantities in Math, Raz Kids, Publishing, and... A NEW CARPET!

Hi All,

    Just a quick note, in math today, we practiced comparison in number stories by using comparison diagrams.  Below is an example of what a comparison diagram looks like.... Difference always means SUBTRACTION!
 
 
I have assigned one page of math homework tonight. 
 
    In reading, we practiced going on RazKids on the ipads.... Take a look!!!
 

 
In writing the students are almost done publishing!!!!  Our Non Fiction unit is almost coming to an end!!!!

Adding 3 numbers, publishing, kid president!

Hi all,

    Just a quick note... in math today... we practiced adding 3 addends together.... We used the strategy of putting the numbers in order from greatest to least.... I have assigned one page of math homework tonight....

   The students are still publishing their non fiction reports... we are almost done!!!

Also, we watched a video on YouTube called "KID PRESIDENT".... Take a look... It is a very motivating and inspiring video!!!!

Terrific Thursday! Math Unit 5 Test, Martin Luther King Jr...

Hi All,

   Just a quick note, the students took their unit 5 math test today.... There is no math homework tonight... However, please make sure your child reads at least 30 minutes every NIGHT!

   We are continuing to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and  talk about great things that he did for us!

   Please remember to have your child go on Raz Kids, DreamBox and any other website to help them with reading and math fluency!!

Wonderful Wednesday! Unit 5 Open Response Review, Before/During Questions, Publishing, & MLK Jr

Hi all,

    Today, we reviewed for our unit 5 open response..... We practiced drawing polygons... and reviewed that we know that a shape is NOT a polygon because there are NO straight lines and there are spaces in between. 
 
         In reading, the students practiced asking before and during questions during reading... Take a look at some of the students work...
 
In writing, the students continued publishing.  The students will be continuing for the rest of the week...
 
In Social Studies, the students did a weekly reader on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Please ask your child about what they learned. 
 
A reminder that tonight I have assigned one page of reading and one page of math homework....
