Rainy Tuesday?! No worries! We still worked hard!

Hi all!

Today in Math, our objective was to provide experiences for equivalent names for numbers; and to review the calculator use.  We also played the "broken calculator" game.  Students had to pretend one key on the calculator was broken and display a number without using that key.  Example:  If the 2 was broken on the calculator, students had to come up with number sentences to show the number 3 without using the number 2.  Some students came up with 3+0, 3-0, 4-1, 7-4, etc).  It sounds easy once you think of it, but when you start to do the problem, you have to remember that the key "2" is broken!  But, with these smart cookies, they had no problem!  They were focused and ready to share their work!

In reading today, our objective was "good readers have to access a library with a variety of books."  Students revisited the library and made sure that they had "just right" levels and books that interest them.  Take a look at these quiet and focused readers! :)
Jacob found a quiet spot to read his book.
Kayla filled out her reading log and got right to work!
Kevin is focused during independent reading!

Sophia loves her "just right" book!

In writing our objective was "good writers write an opinion piece about a topic or a book and provide supporting reasons."  Students were able to pick their favorite book and write their opinion and support it with 3 reasons!  Check out their work below!

All students worked so hard writing their opinions and supporting them with evidence!!! Look at these smart cookies! :)

Lastly, in Science, we started our "Changes" unit... Today we discussed changes in the environment... Here are some things that students already knew about changes....

What a day!!!! My students are continuously engaged and excited to learn!  They continue to amaze me everyday!!!

Tonight, I have sent home one page of math homework.

Until tomorrow! :)

Best,

Miss Ignatiadis
