What a Monday! Math number grids, choosing books, and friendly letters!

Hi all,

Today in Math, we explored patterns on a number grid.  Students took turns carefully putting numbers on the number grid.  Attached you will see a sample of a number grid we worked on today!

In reading, the students objective was "good readers have different reasons for selecting books."
The students responses for choosing different books were:  if the book is interesting, wanting to know more about the topic, if it is written by an author they like, if it is a series of books I like, I read the back of the book and it looks interesting, I looked through the pages and it was "just right" and it is a genre that I am interested in.

Attached you will see students responses as to why they choose the books they like!
Bennett had a connection to losing a tooth! That is why he chose his book!

Jaiden chose his book because it looked funny!

Kathryn chose her book because it looked funny!

Samantha chose her book because she likes lions!

In writing, the students objective was "good writers write letters to communicate a message."  We talked about reasons to write a friendly letter and why some people write letters to one another.  (Ex. if they miss someone, if they want to thank someone for something, etc).

Attached you will see some of the friendly letters students wrote today!

Maira wrote a friendly letter to her mom!
Celeste wrote a friendly letter to her grandma :)
Bennett wrote a friendly letter to his friend Tommy!
Kathryn wrote a friendly letter to her dad!
Yomara wrote her friendly about Mrs. Matturro!
Samantha wrote her friendly letter to Mrs. Durand!

We discussed the importance of making the "body" of a friendly letter "full" so the person that is reading the letter has a lot of information about how you feel!

Parents.... For the most part.... Here is when your child has their readers/writers workshop "share" days during closing meeting.... Attached is the sharing days... :)

For homework tonight, the students have one math page (focusing on quick math facts and money)and one reading page (focusing on setting, characters, and favorite part). :)

Another day of hard working cookies!!!!
Also, inside your child's homework folder, you will see the link to this blog page.... :)
Until tomorrow!!!

Best,

Miss Ignatiadis
