Terrific Tuesday... "Shortcuts for "harder" subtraction facts," Making Connections to text, & Halloween Beginnings!

Hi All,

Today in Math, our objective was to guide students as they discover and practice shortcuts for subtracting 9 or 8 from any number.... Students practiced shortcuts as a whole class and worked independently.

In reading, I read the Lucky Song by Vera B Williams.....

and I modeled making connections during reading.  I had a connection to Evie when she wanted to go outside and have fun.  The students practiced reading their own books and making their own connections.

Take a look at some of the students connections!!

In writing, we practiced writing beginnings to our Halloween Story.... Students were reminded to add details... and an engaging beginning... We called it "THE HOOK!"  This let's the audience get excited and eager to read your story!

Tonight, the students have one page of math homework!

Until tomorrow!
Best,
Miss Ignatiadis
